CSF releases results of its survey assessing Fredericton artists’ need for affordable studio space
July 24, 2025
CreativeSpaces-Fredericton (CSF) released today its snapshot survey report “Assessing Fredericton Artists’ Need for Affordable Studio Space”. The report highlights the difficulty Fredericton artists face in knowing where to look and find available and affordable studios. Among CSF’s survey findings are indicated the diverse disciplines of artists needing studio space; the types of studios they require; what they can afford to pay for studios; the timing of their need for creative space; and, what further supports would assist their creative practice.
The lack of studio spaces has been a long-standing issue in the city limiting artists’ ability to be viable contributors to the city’s creative economy. CSF calls on the City of Fredericton to make addressing this arts issue a priority in its 2026 Cultural Development Plan. To read the report, see Resources.
City of Fredericton contributes $500 to CreativeSpaces-Fredericton’s launch.

Following on two meetings CSF’s president, Leone Pippard, had with Angela Watson, the City’s Cultural Development Officer, in November of last year to introduce the mission of CreativeSpaces-Fredericton, CSF received subsequently a $500 City of Fredericton Activity Grant to be used towards launching CSF on the internet.
In the meetings Leone Pippard presented early findings from CSF’s September 2024 artist survey and spoke about what other Canadian cities were doing to address the lack of available and affordable studio spaces for artists in their cities, requesting that the City of Fredericton consider taking similar steps to assist our city’s artists with having sufficient studio spaces.

Unable to find studio space for her practice, Fredericton artist founds a new creative enterprise focused on creative placemaking
January 27, 2024
As an artist in the City of Fredericton, Leone Pippard, searched unsuccessfully for two years to find a suitable studio to conduct her painting practice. What she discovered was she wasn’t alone in needing creative space. Other artists and arts organizations were in need as well. She also found the lack of studio spaces has been a Fredericton cultural issue that has been around for a long time. Seeing, however, how other Canadian cities were assisting their artists and cultural providers in having affordable spaces to live and work, she founded CreativeSpaces-Fredericton (CSF) in June of 2024 with the aim of advancing creative placemaking in Fredericton. Since that time, she has gained the interest of others in the arts community and the private sector in her cause. In December 2024 CSF was incorporated as a non-profit corporation. It is lead by a professional board of four directors that were elected in January 2025. All are as passionate as Leone in working to make spaces for creativity in the City of Fredericton.
